2007 Deep Throttle Fund Drive
Many small web sites have had to face a cold, harsh reality -- banner advertising is dead for niche markets
like Deep Throttle and AutoRacingHistory.com. Yet, ironically, it is the niche markets that are served by the
Internet like no other medium is capable of doing.
So, what are sites like Deep Throttle to do in order to stay in business? They can continue to run banner
ads that barely pay the bills and annoy readers to no end. They can go to a subscription based system, but we
don't want to do that. Nor does it appear the market is ready for it. There are sytems in place where readers
can voluntarily "pay" for the content they are reading, but they are cumbersome, and still run the risk of
annoying the customer as they have to appear everywhere to be effective.
Or, they can try a system that has worked well for the Public Broadcasting System for years -- a fund drive.
That is what we are going to try here. If you wish to not donate anything and enjoy the content of Deep Throttle
for free, that's fine. After all, ultimately that is what we are here for.
However, if you wish to help Deep Throttle grow and continue to provide you the entertainment and best CART
commentary on the web, then we would be grateful if you help support us. You can choose any amount as
small as $1.00 or as large as you see fit.
We are using PayPal for a safe and secure transaction. If you don't already have a PayPal account, you can
either sign up for one, or simply use your credit card to make the donation through the PayPal system.
If you wish to make a donation by check instead, make it out to Deep Throttle, and send it
to 46 Landstone Terrace, Rochester, NY 14606.
