The August ranking features the top 15 American driver prospects for open wheel road racing. The next ranking will appear on September 26, 2012.

1 Alexander Rossi (F-Renault 3.5)
Qualified third at Silverstone but failed to finish. Came back in the second race from the back of the field to finish fifth. Moved up one spot in the standings to 10th.

2 Conor Daly (GP3)
Qualified and finished sixth at Budapest then followed up with a ninth place finish in race two. Dropped to sixth in the standings.

3 Sage Karam (Star Mazda)
A second and first at always tough Trois-Rivieres with two third spot qualifying runs. Moved into second in the standings.

4 Gabby Chaves (Star Mazda)
A fifth and a second at Trois-Rivieres improves his top five finishing record to 11 out of 12, but drops to third in the standings.

5 Connor De Phillippi (Star Mazda)
A third in the first Trois-Rivieres race after starting second, then finished 13th in the second race. Maintains fourth in the standings.

6 Spencer Pigot (USF2000)
Back to action with two poles and a win at Mid-Ohio followed by a third and second at Road America. However, two poor finishes dropped him out of the lead into second in the points.

7 Felix Serralles (British F3)
A win and three seconds over two race weekends moves him into second in the points.

8 Wyatt Gooden (F2000)
Grabs a win and third at Mid-Ohio. Takes a pole and two seconds at Summit Point. Maintains second in the championship.

9 Scott Anderson (USF2000)
A breakout month. Took a second and first at Mid-Ohio. Then, improved his position throughout Road America -- third, second, then first, along with two poles. This leaped him from sixth to third in the standings.

10 Jack Eidson (Skip Barber)
A second and first at Mid-Ohio keeps him fighting for the championship where he is currently second.

11 Brandon Newey (F16000)
Won an impressive race in the rain at Summit Point after taking a third and pole in the first race. Earlier, took a fifth and fourth at Mid-Ohio. Still leads the points.

12 Trent Hindman (USF2000)
A fourth and third at Mid-Ohio followed by a fourth, sixth, and eighth at Road America. This moved him up one spot to sixth in the standings.

13 Kyle Connery (F2000)
DNF at Mid-Ohio but took second in the second race. At Summit Point, registered a sixth but spun off in the second wet race. He now sits 11th in the standings.

14 Jack Mitchell, Jr. (Skip Barber)
Continues to lead the championship thanks to 14 podiums in 14 races and five victories. Also sits third in the Ontario Formula Ford series with a win, a second, and two thirds.

15 Bobby Kelley (Pacific F2000)
Pacific F2000 did not compete this month.
