Prospects Ranking
For Open Wheel Road Racing
August 26, 2009

The August ranking features the top 15 American driver prospects for open wheel road racing. Here is the press release for this month's ranking. The next ranking will appear September 30, 2009.

  Driver Last Month
1 J.R. Hildebrand (Indy Lights)
Has been uncatchable this year, and the month of August has been no exception. Two poles, a victory, and a third has put a virtual stranglehold on the points lead.
1
2 John Edwards (Atlantic)
Cooled off a bit, by Edwards' standards, but still managed two front row starts and a a second at always tough Trois-Rivieres as he tries to catch up to the points leader.
2
3 Jonathan Summerton (Atlantic)
He's been the hot American in Atlantics this month. Won from the pole at Mid-Ohio and took third at Trois-Rivieres keeping him third in the points.
4
4 Josef Newgarden (Europe)
Still fast (front row start and fastest race lap) and still winning (a victory at Silverstone) in the MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain. However, some contact spoiled his month, losing ground to first in the standings and barely hanging onto second.
3
5 Gabby Chaves (FBMW)
The Formula BMW Americas season is not over, but the duel citizen has clinched the title thanks to two victories and a second at Road America. Chaves still has not finished off the podium.
6
6 Joel Miller (Star Mazda)
Took third at Trois-Rivieres moving him past Conor Daly for third in the standings.
7
7 Conor Daly (Star Mazda)
Inconsistency plagues Daly. A seventh starting spot and a 14th finishing position thanks to a late race crash at Trois-Rivieres drops him to fourth in the points.
5
8 Chris Miller (F2000)
Two poles and a win at Mid-Ohio gives Miller the F2000 Championship Series title, in arguably the hardest fought junior series in America.
8
9 Connor De Phillippi (Skip Barber National)
Solidifying his championship lead with two wins at Road America, one from the pole. He now has seven wins in 10 races.
9
10 Robert Podlesni (Pacific F2000)
The Pacific F2000 series was off this month as Podlesni sits on his championship lead with a win, five seconds, a third and a fourth in eight races.
10
11 Matthew Inge (F2000)
Two sixth place finishes at Mid-Ohio were enough to allow him to hang onto second place in the series. Inge ends the season with two wins and seven podium finishes in 12 races.
11
12 Max Hyatt (Pacific F2000)
Enjoyed a break with a gap in the Pacific F2000 series schedule. Hyatt is second in the series with four wins in eight races.
12
13 Alexander Rossi (Europe)
Out of action with no August races scheduled in the Formula Master series.
13
14 Benjamin Searcy (F2000)
Got back into the groove with a win at Mid-Ohio. This allowed him to stay in fourth place in the final standings.
15
15 Court Vernon (Skip Barber National)
Continues to do well with two runner up finishes at Road America, moving him up one spot into second in the standings.
