2000 Fantasy Auto Racing Teams (FART) Frequently Asked Questions
Let me get this right. The points your team of drivers score in a race do not go
towards your season points?
That is correct. The points your team of drivers score are only used to determine what
position your team placed for that particular race. Then, depending on what position
your team finishes, as long as it is in the top 12, you will earn points towards the
season championship.
Why do it this way?
For two reasons. First, we think it is a little more realistic. You can equate the points
you score in one race to the lead a driver accumulates in one race. It doesn't matter how
much he won the race by. It only matters that he won the race. He doesn't get to "bank"
that lead for another race. Thus, in FART, the excitement is how you did within each race,
and then how that translates to the season championship. Just like for a driver competing.
Secondly, this allows you to "throw away" your bad races. In other fantasy games, if your
drivers have a bad race, you can fall hundreds of points behind. Sometimes, you can
never recover. In FART, anybody who falls outside the top 12 will get zero points, and you
only lose (reasonable amount of) ground to 12 teams. In other words, you don't get zinged
for a DNF. There's also another reason -- we just think it's a heck of a lot more fun this
way.
How much does it cost to enter?
It's free. Thus it costs nothing, nada, zippo, zilch, zero.
What, no prizes?
Hey, we did say it was free, didn't we? We're trying to get some prizes whether out of our own
pocket or through a sponsor. We can't promise anything, so please don't play expecting prizes.
Play for the fun of it. Play because you love CART racing, and want to make the 2000 season more
fun to follow.
If I use up all my trades and one of my drivers gets hurt or losses a ride, can I
replace him?
No. You only get five (5) trades for any reason whatsoever (except any trade made before the
season starts does not count). It is up to you to anticipate the possibility of a driver
getting hurt or losing his ride. Also, be aware that if one of your drivers gets hurt, and
you select another driver to replace him, and then when the original driver gets better,
you take him back, that counts as another trade. In other words, all those transactions
count as two (2) trades.
Why only five trades?
Our goal is to make this fantasy game a low maintenance game for its participants (and, admittedly,
for us). Thus, we need to strike a happy medium between allowing the participants some control
over the activity of their team, but at the same time not require the participant to devote all
his time towards it. We believe five trades works fine for this goal. (Remember, any trades
made before the season starts, don't count.)
Why don't you send results and news via the postal service, i.e., snail mail?
This is an Internet based game only. In order to keep our costs down (remember the part about
this being free?), we will only be posting results and news on our web site.
