Featured Question

CART considers a Brazilian race to be very important for the continued growth of the sport. Brazil is supposed to have a great following for CART. Yet, for three years, no matter what is tried and how many excuses are made, the Rio race has been a failure both attendance wise and financially. The previous promoters "skipped town," and CART had to bail the race out at the last minute. With Emerson Fittipaldi in charge, it may get better. But, is this the last chance for Rio? Should CART dump Rio once and for all?

Don't give up on Brazil or Rio. Give Emerson and other well known Brazilian racers a chance to make a go of it. Rio is simply a grand example of poor marketing by CART. One of the reasons the bumber cars (NASCAR) are so popular isn't simply brand (Chevy, Ford, etc.) recognition. I mean any body with a brain knows that the cars they put on the track are nothing like the one in your driveway even if it has the same name. Nascar has done a better job of marketing. If we can get rid of the Imitation Racing League and have CART do a better job of marketing, the fans in Brazil and elsewhere will get onboard.

Rio's layout is awesome -- a nice combination of road skills and oval skills needed. Why can't they draw people? Why can't CART get ABC to send it's own cameras? The race is doomed -- let's put a copy of the track in Mexico City, charge a reasonable gate price (like NFL and MLB did when they went there) and watch 100,000 people show up.

I think that RIO is a great track, and it should continue to be on the CART schedule. The Brazilian people love it. RIO will always impress me as long as CART doesn't make the teams run the STUPID speedway wings!!!
